Update: Augusta Broad Street Improvement Project – September 16, 2025
The Augusta Engineering and Environmental Services Department (AED) presented updates on the Broad Street Improvement Project at the City Commission meeting on September 16.
The plans include adding parking and enhancing mobility in downtown Augusta, including revisions for 615-625 on-street spaces on Broad Street, new angled parking on 12th Street, a lane reduction with added parking on Reynolds Street, and a one-way conversion of Ellis Street with organized parking.
Key Highlights:
● Broad Street: Revised design includes 615-625 on-street spaces (30-35 more than previous plans) while maintaining pedestrian, bicycle, and transit accommodations.
● 12th Street: Proposed conversion to angled parking, expanding from 15 to 40-45 spaces.
● Reynolds Street: A planned “road diet” will reduce lanes from four to two and add 390-400 new parking stalls without significantly impacting traffic flow.
● Ellis Street: Will become one-way with organized parking, increasing capacity by 80-90 spaces, to 320-330 total.
● AED is developing a comprehensive parking management plan to prioritize customer parking and curb long-term or inappropriate use of prime spaces.
● To better keep the public informed, AED has engaged a public relations firm to coordinate stakeholder outreach and provide regular project updates.
